"A Letter to Christians" by Reverend Roger Christie

Dear Christian Friend,

‘God has chosen the foolish and despised things of this world to shame the wise.’ 1 Corinthians 1:27

There is hardly a more ridiculed, despised or prohibited plant in this world than Cannabis Hemp, or ‘marijuana’. This extremely useful and beneficial herb put on this Earth by GOD has purposely been misnamed ‘marijuana‘ to fool people away from its natural, useful goodness.  The human and social costs of its prohibition are beyond measure and have continued on, decade after decade, for almost one hundred years.  Until the age of industrialization brought its prohibition, Cannabis hemp farming, manufacture and trade was basic and integral to civilizations around the globe for millenia.

The purpose of this letter is to build a bridge of understanding from Cannabis hemp to Christianity in order to benefit humanity.

My name is Roger Christie and I write to you from my cell at the Honolulu Federal Detention Center as a ‘pre-trial detainee’. I have been held without bail since last July 2010 while under indictment for marijuana conspiracy charges for operating the Hawai’i Cannabis (THC) Ministry, a sincere expression of my spirituality and service to my community.  I thank you for allowing me the courtesy of presenting my case to you. Once you check the facts presented, can I ask you to join me in prayer and action to help save billions of people on this planet from hunger, poverty, disease, weather, pain, spiritual disconnection, false imprisonment and much more?

‘God said, I give you every seed-bearing herb and every green plant on the face of the Earth for your food.’ Genesis 1:29
If you Google ‘hempseed nutrition‘, you can verify that Cannabis hempseed is one of the healthiest foods on Earth. Hempseed has essential fatty acids, Omega 3, 6 and 9, B vitamins, amino acids and more in perfect proportion for optimum human health. It is a vegetarian protein that’s easy to grow in most soil conditions.

‘The spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. Such teachings come through hypocritical liars whose consciences have been seared as if by a hot iron. They … order them to abstain from certain foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. For everything God created is good … ‘ 1 Timothy 1:4
Cannabis hemp is a multi-purpose plant.  If stranded on a deserted island this is the best plant for survival.   History tells us that sailors would carry fertile hempseeds onboard in case of a shipwreck. It has the raw materials for food, clothing, shelter, fuel and medicine.

‘The Lord said to Moses, Take the following fine spices: 500 shekels of liquid myrrh, 250 shekels of cinnamon, 250 shekels of ‘fragrant cane’, 500 shekels of cassia and a hin of olive oil. Make these into a sacred anointing oil. This is to be my sacred anointing oil for all the generations to come.’ Exodus 30:23
Three Hebrew-English dictionaries including The Living Torah, Webster’s, and that of Eliezer Ben-Yehuda, as well as scholars at Hebrew University say that ‘fragrant cane’ is kaneh bosem; Cannabis hemp, or marijuana. Yes. We have been making the holy anointing oil of Moses (co-incidentially in the historic Moses Building in Hilo, Hawai’i) and the christening oil of Jesus for many years at our THC Ministry. With Cannabis as the ‘fragrant cane’ we have witnessed many great benefits. We anoint people with this sacred oil and with prayer and blessing. There have been miracles, too, including the healing of ‘incurable’ gangrene, avoiding amputation.

Anointing is fundamental in the Old and New Testaments; The word ‘Christ’ means ‘anointed’ and comes from the Greek word ‘Chrism’. We think it’s a literal thing; anoint the head with oil. Put it topically on the top of the head (crown) and let it seep into the bloodstream and circulate throughout the body reducing stress and pain, healing disease, invoking euphoria, and as a sacrament, connecting the receiver with Spirit. What a true blessing it is! Some call it ‘unction’. Is feeling good – feeling God?

‘They drove out many demons and anointed many sick people with oil and they healed them.’ Mark 6:13

‘God has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy.’ Hebrews 1:9

Does using Cannabis have a spiritual component? Of course it does! That’s what most people commonly use it for. They call it ‘getting high’, a term that measures spiritual elevation.
What might have put the ‘joy’ into the oil of joy? Or the ‘glad’ into the oil of gladness? Google anandamide‘ and see the ‘bliss stuff’ now scientifically proven to be in Cannabis hemp flowers and leaves.

‘The spirit of the Lord is upon me because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight to the blind, to release the oppressed and to declare that this is the Lord’s most favored year.’ Luke 4:18

I believe that Cannabis hemp prohibition is the biggest cause of malnutrition, poverty, injustice, war, hard drug addiction, violence, and disease; possibly the crime of the century. In my opinion, ending the damaging prohibition and liberating this plant gift from God will lead to the greatest economic revival, environmental recovery and humanitarian renewal in our lives.

America was founded as a hemp nation by farmers of  Cannabis hemp! Cannabis hemp was such a vital and integral crop to colonial America that many places contain hemp in their name. For instance: Hempstead-hemp farm, East Hampton-east hemptown, New Hampshire = new hempfield.  Jamestown settlers were required to plant a portion of their fields in hemp,
or  face a penalty. Thomas Jefferson wrote that, “Hemp is of the first necessity to the wealth and protection of the nation.”

Is Cannabis hemp ‘Constitutional’?  The original drafts of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were printed on Cannabis hemp or ‘rag’ paper made by Ben Franklin who owned a hemp paper mill.   George Washington was a farmer of hemp who wrote in his diary, “Sow the hempseed everywhere.”
Hemp has enormous civilian demand, formerly mentioned in Executive Orders from Presidents Roosevelt through Clinton as a strategic ‘food resource’. Prohibition occurred with legislative duplicity and a name change from hemp to ‘marihuana’ in the early 1900′s once synthetics were invented and Industry refused to compete with the natural plant. Propaganda, prejudice and vested political and economic interests have kept the prohibition intact.
Today ‘marijuana’ is catagorized as a Schedule 1 controlled substance of the most dangerous kind with “no recognized medical use in treatment in the USA”.  How can this be? Fifteen states and the District of Columbia have voted to allow it for recognized medical use and DO believe it has great medicinal value.
The federal definition of Cannabis hemp, or ‘marijuana’ must be changed to reflect the truth of history, science and the relativity of much more dangerous substances that are commonly and legally available like cigarettes, alcohol and pharmaceuticals. Can we have equal rights for Cannabis?
You might be aware of, or even took part in the righteous action in the early 1990′s when native Americans were denied their age-old use of sacramental peyote by the U.S. Supreme Court. Religious leaders organized and lobbied Congress to change the law and make things right. It worked, and religious freedom was restored in the nation founded upon that very principle. We need something like that for Cannabis hemp.
I was raided, indicted and arrested last year with my fiance and twelve others on marijuana conspiracy charges for operating The Hawai’i Cannabis (THC) Ministry. Thankfully all the others were released within three days on a signature bond. I have been held without bail since July 9, 2010 as a potential “danger to my community”, a political charge. The Old Testament story of David and Goliath feels like a parallel with my current situation. We face an enormous challenge that is highly personal to us, and to many others. I am a person who takes full responsibility and I admit that my ‘pride went before my fall’. That being said, now it’s time to clean this up and work for personal redemption, and for the greater good of humanity at the same time. We have a prayer and a plan ~ based on a plant and a prophesy.
We also have a website:  www.the-last-marijuana-trial.com,  as our prayer includes becoming the last case of its kind like there was a last witch trial a few centuries ago.
A miracle before a trial is is our only hope since the Federal Government is a formidable opponent and makes sure the deck is stacked in their favor.

‘They will know that I am the Lord when I break the yoke of their bondage and rescue them from the hands of those who have enslaved them. They will no longer be plundered by the heathen. I will grow for them a ‘plant of renown’ so that they will no longer be victims of hunger or bear the scorn of the nations. Then they will know that I, the Lord their God am with them and that they are my people.’ Ezekiel 34:29
Please visit our website and help us to uplift humanity and fulfill a prophesy. Your comments and contribution are greatly appreciated. Thank you and aloha.
